NAVAL DEFENCE.
«wU.S.A. BILL PASSED. EXPENDITURE OF £73,838,051. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) WASHINGTON. March 27. The Naval Appropriation Bill was passed by 'the House of Representatives to-day. Various minor amendments dealing with dirigibles, etc., were defeated. The measure provides for an expenditure of £73,838,051. This sum includes funds for continuing the construction of the 10 vessels now being built, the modernising of two others, including the elevation of their guns, the beginning of the work on two new dirigibles, the building of two more, submarine salvage vessels, and additional aeroplanes and the maintenance of marine corps at home and in Nicaragua and China.
NEW CRUISER FOR GERMANY.
(Australian and N.Z. Gable Assn.) BERLIN, March 27. The Reichstag to-day adopted the Naval Budget, including provision for a new 10,000-ton cruiser. PROTEST BY LITVINOFF. CONSTRUCTIVE POLICY URGENT. GENEVA, March 27. The Russian Deputy-Commissar of Foreign Affairs, Litvinoff, who attended the sittings of the Preparatory Cornmil lee on Disarmament, left Geneva to-day. His last act before his departure was to protest against the comment of the chairman of the committee, Dr. Loudon, that he hoped the Soviet representatives would next time bring to the committee a constructive, not a destructive, policy.
