COMPENSATION CLAIM.
£SOO DAMAGES ASKED.
TWO WATERSIDERS INJURED
AUCKLAND, Thursday
Claims for compensation by two waterside workers who received remarkably similar injuries through a heavy bale failing upon them on March 21, 1U 27, occupied the Supreme Court yesterday for Ihe third time since last August. On the present occasion the two men, Frederick Hoy and Robert Lee Bennett, are each claiming £SOO damages and expenses from the Auckland Harbour Board.
The plaintiffs had previously unsuccessfully sued the carriers concerned. Both plaintiffs, in evidence, said they had always thought the chutes dangerous as the sides were too low, but they had never made complaint. Evidence, was given that the package which fell had been placed inosl carefully on the chute, and o'ie experienced wharf worker said he had never known a package to go over the edge. Numerous other witnesses said they had seen this happen on various occasions and gave details. The hearing was adjourned.
