A FRANKTON HOARDING.

APPROVED BY COUNCIL

OPPOSED BY RATEPAYERS' ASSN

The Frankton Ratepayers' Association opposes the erection of an advertising sign at the corner of Kent and Commerce Streets, Frankton. Their protest was forwarded to the Hamilton Borough Council last, night. The General Purposes Committee of the Council recommended that the application be granted. Cr. C. Lafferty supported the protest of the Ratepayers' Association. Re drew the Council's attention to the fact that when it was proposed to paint a benzine sign on a roof at Frankton the Council objected. His Worship the Mayor doubted, as the hoarding was on private property, if the Council could prohibit the hoarding. Personally he preferred to sec a decent hoarding to an empty section. Cr. Dcnz said he at first was inclined to oppose the hoarding, but he now considered that some of the old motor cars standing on some of the empty sections in Frankton would be better hidden by hoardings. The General Purposes Committee's recommendation was adopted, Cr. Lafferty dissenting.
