Tlic particular vestments objected lo are Hie chasuble and the alb. linlh of | these vestments are illegal according 110 the law as at present existing. In j the Privy Council judgment in the case | of Itidsdale v. Clifton, allirming the decision of Iho Arches Court of Canterbury, if was held I hat the wearing during the service of Holy Communion lof the chasuble and alb is illegal. Those who claim Unit the above-men-tioned veslnieiils are legal frequently refer to the case of Reid v. the Bishop of Lincoln and to lid’ Urnamenls Rubric in the Book of Common Prayer. The case of Reid v. the Bishop of Lincoln did not decide any question relating to such vestments. In the case of Rids- j dale v. Clifton, above referred to, the | Ornaments Rubric was dealt with most j exhaustively and correctly explained. The judgment in this case of itidsdale v. Clifton may he described as a very weighty one. The Privy Council Court which confirmed the .judgment of the ecclesiastical Court eonsislcd of ten judges and live bishops, including the Archbishop of Canterbury. I shall be much pleased if Bishop Cherrington will slate his authority in support ef his contention that the wearing of the above-mentioned vestments during (he service of Holy Communion is legal.— I am, etc., "WATCHMAN.
