MORRINSVILLE.

Approach of Spring.

Notwithstanding the unpleasant, changeable weather during July there is every appearance of an early spring in the Morrinsville district. Emit trees are already in blossom, the willows are shooting, and the fine warm days during last week have shaded the grass growing well, especially on those farms where liberal top-dress-ing has been practised. Cows are. coming in fast, carloads of calves are to bo'seen daily arriving at the railway on their way lo Hie newlyestablished Thames Valley Co-opera-live Calf By-Product Company’s works, and all Hie dairy factories will soom be busy again. Farewell Social. The members of the Knox Church Ladies’ Guild entertained Mrs Thorn at an afternoon social before she left Morrinsville to lake up tier residence with her daughter, Mrs Morris, in Gisborne. During die afternoon songs were rendered by Mcsdames Ha.rl.loy and Barford and a rccilalion by .Mrs Ennis. There were also a number of competitions, which were much enjoyed. Mrs Slarnes, on behalf of the guild, expressed the regret all the members felt at Mrs Thorn leaving, and presented her wild a handsome bedroom clock and toilet requisilcs. Afternoon tea was provided by the ladies. Fire Brigade. The Morrinsville Fire Brigade held a very enjoyable dance in I he .Masonic Hall. Tiie hall, which was well filled, was partly decorated for Iho occasion brigade’s colours, red and

black, in the ball, and the fire brigade equipment on the stage, and the floor was in perfect order for dancing. Excellent, music was provided by the Elite Jazz Orchestra. Extras were played by Mrs Lingard, Misses M. Stevens and J. Firman. The winners of the novelty dances were: Lucky Spot Waltz, Miss Jones (Whangarei); Monte Carlo, Miss J. Firman and Mr Nicholls. An excellent supper was provided, M'esdamcs Pretty, Firman, Elder and Simpson acting as hostesses. Branchman E. Grigg tilled the position of M.C. Poundkeepcr. There has been no response to the Borough Council’s advertisement for a poundkeeper and the borough engineer was instructed to find a suitable man to till the position, as since the last poundkeeper resigned people have been making too much use of the roads for grazing purposes, thus causing danger to travellers, especially at night.
