PHILADELPHIA EXHIBITION
INVITATION FOR A WARSHIP
DECLINESD BY THE DOMINION (Times Correspondent.)
WELLINGTON, Saturday
The Secretary of Slate, for the Do-' minions (Mr Leopold Amery) has forwarded lo the Government cabled advice of an invitation extended by the president or the Philadelphia Exhibition to the Imperial and Dominion Governments lo send a naval vessel or vessels on a visit to the exhibition, which started on May 31, and will last to December 10. Early dales in July are suggested for the visit, but it is made clear that a visit will lie welcomed at any lime. The communication from the Secretary of Slate indicated that one of His Majesty's ships on Ihe Norlli American station will probably visit Philadelphia during the exhibition, but no date has yet been fixed. The Prime Minister (lit. lion. J. G. Coalcs) has forwarded a reply pointing out that the sending of a ship from the New Zealand division of the Royal Navy would ncccessitato journeying approximately Ki.OOO miles there and back, with a consequent cost of fuel, Panama dues, etc. The invitation was appreciated, and regret is expressed that if could not be accepted.
