SAD MOTOR ACCIDENT.

MAORI RUN OVER

FATALITY ON WAERENGA ROAD,

RETURNING HOME FROM DANCE

When returning home from a picture show and dance which he had attended at Tc Kauwhata on Saturday evening, a Maori, George Porangi, aged 26, was run over by a motor bus, receiving injuries from which lie died shortly afterwards. The accident took place on the Te Kauwhata-Wacrcnga Road in the early hours of Sunday morning. The bus was driven by Mr Herbert Teddy, of Wacrenga and was conveying from the entertainment to their homes at Waercnga. 17 passengers, including the deceased.

It appears that the vehicle was stopped to allow Porangi to alight. The bus then restarted on its journey, and Porangi apparently ran after it and attempted to jump on board again. He slipped and fell, the rear back wheel of the bus passing over his body. Porangi was hastily removed to Huntly for medical assistance, but expired as he arrived there. The deceased was a married mau and had two children.
