MILKING SHORTHORNS.
RANSTEAD BROS'. SALE. The Farmers' Co-operative Anc* tioneering Co., Ltd., report:—At Matangi yesterday we conducted, on behalf of the Messrs Ranstead Bros., their annual sale of registered Milking Shorthorn cattle. It was not anticipated that the results would be on a par with the record established last year, but the vendors, in good sporting manner, left almost the entire offering to the judgment of the public. Praise is due to them for the creditable manner in which the various lots were brought forward, and much favourable comment was passed. Many buyers from the south were in attendance. The north was also represented. The highest figure realised was 65gns for lot 65, a bull, "Matangi Gertrude's Prince," which was secured by Mr J* de la Hayc, Woodvillc. Lot 33 fell to Mr R. V. Brown, Levin, at 40gns. Mr J. Taylor, Cambridge, purchased "Matangi Frederick 14th" at 40gns, and "Matangi Frederick 12th" at 36 gns. Lot 41, "Matangi Glaxo 10th'* went at 33gns to J. Heresey, Palmer-* ston North; "Matangi Esau 7th" at 30 gns to J. Leamy, Ashhurst; "Matangi Frederick 15th" at 30gn&" to R. Shep* herd, W'ellsford; "Matangi Esau Bth.,* at 27gns, to J. R. Anderson, Palmer* ston North. The average of the bulls sold was close on 30gns per ■ head. Amongst the heifers the most highly valued proved to be lot 1, "Matangi Clara sth," which was purchased at 32gns by Jas. Taylor, Cambridge; "Matangi Sunshine 7th" fell to the same purchaser at 30gns; "Matangi Mildred 6th" went at 25gns to : H. 1 Mandeno, Hairini. Other purchases. in j this class were by A. D. BelLClevedon; W. C. Deller, Carterton; B. JL. Jull, Te Rapa; W. Alexander and C. S. Alexander, Te Awamutu.
