LABOUR MATTERS
ITALIAN CONTROL PROPOSAL. OPPOSED BY INDUSTRIALISTS. THREATS TO CLOSE WORKS. (Australian and N.Z. Gable Assn.) ROME, March 11. The proposed labour control is meeting with strong opposition among the old-established industrials. Senator Cavazzi, one of the leading industrialists in Milan, has threatened to close his factories, rendering idle thousands, if the legislation is passed, declaring that it would leave industry to the worst elements of the labouring classes. Senator Cavazzi’s threat has caused a sensation in Rome. The Italian Cabinet approved of a measure providing for State control of certain industries, excluding businesses worked by less than 50 employees. The industries named are to bo controlled by committees composed ■> l nine workmen and nine employers elected for three years. The workmen’s committees arc entitled to full information in regard to the business with the exception of trade secrets. Two workers in each factory will b<‘ deputed to keep the workers’ committee informed as to matters connected with the business.
