COLONIAL OFFICE ESTIMATES. £30,000 FOR NAURU. EXPLORATION IN PAPUA. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) LONDON, March 11. Colonel L. M. G. S. Amery, in explaining the supplementary Colonial Office vole of £45,000, said that £30,000 was for the payment of stump duty on Hie Nauru agreement, and Hie balance was the British Government’s share due tc the Anglo-Persian company for exploring for oil in Papua. Captain Ormsby Gore moved a reduction of Hie vole and complained that the Government’s activities seemed In he confined to dyes, manures and oils. Replying to Lord Robert Cecil, Col. Amery said the company only received out-of-pocket expenses. The Admiralty had induced the British and Australian Governments to prospect Papua. The amendment was withdrawn and 11. e vote passed.
