POULTRYMEN IN HAMILTON
VISIT TO RUAKURA. A party comprising some of New Zealand’s leading poultrymen was at the Ruakura Government Experimental Farm yesterday. The visitors included Mr F. C. Brown (Chief Government Poultry Instructor), Mr Cussen (South Island instructor), Mr E. Jarrett (instructor for the Auckland district), Mr Cocker (assistant instructor for the South Island), Mr J. Hutton, and Mr D. Y. Gibson. The party had been assisting at the Poultry Conference held at Auckland last week and all, with the exception of Mr Jarrett, who is remaining at Uuakura for a few days to grade and cull the poultry, returned to the South by the Wellington express last evening. A he Ruakura Farm was very favourably commented upon. Mr Gibson, who was representing the Otago Egg Circle at the conference, and Mr Hutton, are two of the most successful poultry keepers of Otago. They crcli maintain a Hock of about 1006 birds, and specialise in White Leghorns. The general opinion was that a thorough understanding of the business, diligence and the possession of the rigid cquipnu.nl and slock were necessary for successful poultry farming. Il was mentioned that the price of P odstuffs for poultry was considerably lower in Otago Ilian il is here.
