SWIMMING

EDUCATIONAL CARNIVAL. Misses Shand and Bristed, New Zealand’s champion swimmers, passed through Hamilton this morning for Thames. They expressed themselves well pleased with arrangements for their demonstrations in Hamilton on Saturday next. His Worship the Mayor (Mr J. R. Fow) will welcome the ladies on Saturday afternoon on behalf of Hamiltonians. Three thousand children witnessed the educational performances given by Misses Shand and Bristed at Wellington recently. These ladies personally instructed some of the children and answered various questions. The N.Z.A.S.A. have arranged this lour to encourage and foster swimming, and to help young swimmers to develop a style of swimming on what is recognised as a uniform and most advanced style. The tour is not a racing one for the purpose of competing tor prizes, but for purely educational purposes. The ladies will give exhibitions of swmming over a considerable distance, using Hie breaststroke, backstroke, trudge, crawl, and trudgeon crawl strokes. The South Auckland Centre of the N.Z.A.S.A. have arranged this instructive tour through the province, and it is hoped Hie public will enter info the spirit of this commendable movement, and support it by their attendance on Saturday. The swimming authorities arc also arranging a life-saving exhibition on Saturday afternoon by Auckland swimmers.
