FRENCH ENVOY'S REPORT. ESTIMATING THE RETURNS. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) Received March 13, 5.5 p.m. PARIS, March 12. The special envoy's despatch from Ccblenz, estimating the practical results of the penalties, states: — 1. The occupations are the best conceived and most profitable, the coal carried through Duisburg and Ruhrort alone being estimated al 23,000,003 tuns. 2. The taking over of the product of UjO German Customs on the oute* frontier of Rhineland, bordering France and Belgium, does not promise any considerable yield. The British High Commissioner in Cologne points out that the Customs receipts at Cologne were £ f <oo,ooo during 1920, but does not guarantee the accuracy of the figures. 3. The establishment of the Customs cordon between occupied and free Germany is not likely to yield more than £7,500,000 yearly. EXACTING PAYMENT. PROVISIONS OF THE BRITISH BILL. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) Received March 13, 5.5 p.m. LONDON, March 12. The German Reparation Recovery Fill provides for the payment of 50 per cent of the value of imported German goods to the Commissioner of Customs, who will place all such money to a special account to be applied undo:" the Treasury's direction, towards the discharge of Germany's obligations, L'hder parts eight and nine of the Versailles Treaty. The goods to which thJ Act applies are those wholly or partial!./ manufactured or produced in Germany, and consigned t,o the United Kingdom, riovided they are not intended for reexportation. The value of the goods Sliall be the amount the importer would g.ve at the port of importation, lie payinn freight and insurance. PARIS, March 12. The Allies occupied Oberhauson without incident. A DUTCH PROTEST. AT ALLIED EXACTIONS. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) Received March 12, 5.5 p.m. AMSTERDAM, March 11. It is understood that 'Dutch commercial circles are urging the Government to protest to the League of Nations against the Allies' coercive economic measures in Germany, which are detrimental to commerce between Germany and the neutrals.
