A SAD CASE
ANOTHER APPEAL TO THE PUBLIC. The bravery of the young married iran, Taylor, on Monday last, has brought certain consequences in its train which are very sad in their effect. Taylor, it will be remembered, rushed from the kerbing in Victoria Street in an endeavour to stop a runaway horse. Unfortunately, a motor cyclist collided with him, as the result of which Mr Taylor sustained a fractured thigh. He was removed to the hospital, where there is every possibility of his remaining for some considerable time to come. Through the kindly action of a gentleman who was interested in the matter the Times has become acquainted with certain circumstances, which makes another appeal to the generosity of the community imperative. The young man has a wife and two children in arms, who, deprived of their breadwinner, are absolutely destitute. They are living in one room, for which the rent is overdue, and the woman has practically not a penny to carry on with. The painfulness of their position will be at once apparent, and we make no apology in bringing these facts before a public which has on more than one occasion demonstated its practical generosity in no uncertain manner. It is suggested that if twenty-five gentlemen contributed £5 each this would enable Mrs Taylor to carry on until her husband is sufficiently well to resume work. Donations of any amount, however, will be received at the Times office, where a subscription list, headed by a £5 donation from Mr J. H. Hammond, lias been opened.
