Sir Edward Carson, in a speech at the Constitutional Club, said that there would be only two parlies' In future—those who desired to maintain the existing constitution and [hose who desired to subvert it. Mr Asquith, at Ireland'3 most critical moment, was attempting to minimise the efforts towards a solution. There was no use in mincing words. Liberal Federation, at Ayr, stated that ! it was the meanest calumny to say that '..hose like himself who denounced the present administration of Ireland were responsible for the existing iinarchy. The administration in Ireland was unequalled in any civilised society, and notwithstanding his flippancies and brutalities, Mr Lloyd I George could not divert attention from this outstanding fact. The increased record of crime and reprisals amounted to iinarchy. and it whs a disgrace, not only to the Government and the head of the Government, but to the country as a whop'. The Government's policy was the policy'of despair. MR ASQUITH'S SCHEME. COMPLETE AUTONOMY. POLITICAL AND FINANCIAL. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) Received October 15. 9 p.m. LONDON, October 14. Mr Asquith denied emphatically that the military police reprisals were for outrages committed on them. Parliament should demand a thorough and impartial inquiry. They were, not in any sense acts of defence, but acts of blind, indiscriminate vengeance. There was no parallel for such a stale of affairs, unless the work of the Germans in Belgium.
