There was a general strike for two hours yesterday throughout drily as a protest againsl the reaction in Italy and as a mark of sympathy with Hoi sbevik Russia. All trains were stopped from three In five o'clock, during which period railway oflljcials were requested to assume a serious and dignified attitude.
FATAL ENCOUNTERS. BETWEEN STRIKERS ANDTHOOPS. (Australian and N.X. Gable \ssn.) Received October 15, 10.10 p.m. HUME, October 15. The two hours' strike was, generally, peaceful, but there wer-3 several fatal encounters with troops. Extremists at Bologne invaded the gaol. A Socialist and a policeman were kiiicd and thirteen wounded in Milan by a bomb which was flung in the midsl of a body of troops who fired on the demonstrators, killing one. The mob attacked the carbineers at Foggia, and a fight ensued, i.i which eleven were killed and sixty wounded, including two carabineers, two fa tall v.
