GUTTING RETAIL PRICES
THE MOVEMENT IN AMERICA. MANUFACTURERS PERTURBED. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) Received May 21, 11.20 a.m. NEW YORK, May 20. American manufacturers, realising the seriousness of retail price slamming, are now expressing their willingness to co-operate Willi the hankers to reduce the oost of living by 15 to 25 per, cent. They anticipate that the pre-war standard will never return, and that living will he from half to three ciuarters more than before Hie war. The newspapers to-day are crammed full of advertisements showing reductions varying from 20 to 75 per cent, in clothing, etc.
