Reports from Mexico slate that when Carranza fled from Mexico City he took 27,000,000 pesos of tlie Government funds, hut tin' rebels claim that they recaptured this when the trains carrying tlie President's force were stopped. Carranza's force made away down the railway for a distance of 3,5 miles before it was held up by the rebel troops coming from the north. The latest reports state that furious fighting has been proceeding between forces personally led by Carranza and. the rebels. Heavy rebel reinforcements, including artillery, are being rushed forward. The rebels hope to hold the Presidential elections in July. Huerta will probably act as provisional president in the meantime. The indications suggest the election of General Obregon as president. ESCAPE OF CARRANZA. REBELS CAPTURE GUNBOATS. A report from San Antanio (Texas) says that Carranza escaped through the rebels and his own men by clipping off his beard and moustache. General Obregon has captured all the gunboatv in tlie Mexican Gulf, thus controlling the east coast. CARRANZA ALLOWED TO ESCAPE. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) Received May 14, 10.5 p.m. NEW YORK, May 14. A despatch from El Paso says that General Obregon, the rebel leader, reports that Carranza had been surrounded for three days, and cannot stand out much longer. The rebel troops were ordered to allow Cauranza to escape.
