WAIPA COUNTY TAKES ACTION. .U a previous meeting of the Wnipa County Couneil the point was raised that a loan for tin; erection of workmen’s dwellings could not he utilised for the purchase of land. The point was referred to the. County solicitors, who at Tuesday's meeting explained, the position, and expressed Hit; opinion that the wording of the Act More out the superintendent’s construction that loans could not he utilised for the purchase of land, though probably it was not what. Parliament intended. The provisions of the Act would, they believed, apply to the purchase of a house and its rc-ereelion elsewhere. The supervisor staled dial he had visited AVaihi. and had secured an option over a five-roomed house for li3l>o, in good order, which wo ud suit the requirements of the Council. It was decided to complete the purchase of the house and to lake immediate steps to have it removed and re-erected. Cr. Kllicott reported that he had purchased a house for a workman’s house at To Rapa for a little over tiiOO, and had also received an offer io lake, down and re-erect the house for 11220.—Cr. Kllicoll’s action was endorsed, and the tender for removal accepted. The supervisor reported that there was a large hotel in a certain district containing some (5-i rooms, which it was thought could he secured, Mild which it was believed could he converted into at least eight collages. It was agreed to secure an expert to inspect the building in company with the engineer and submit a report to next meeting, the engineer being authorised if necessary to secure an option over the building. —■- ■ " .
