Of Hie. forwards Clarkin was Hie pick, while Gan’oll as rover played a good game. JUNIORS. The junior competition was also opened on Saturday, Old Boys playing St. Mary’s anil City mealing Frankton. High School and Te Kowhai were also drawn to play, hut, with the consent of the Rugby Union, agreed to play at a later dale. The games were hardly up (o expectations, eliielly through Hie inability of the St. Mary's and Frankton Clubs In raise full fifteens. However, there is plenty of material lo provide a good competition, and with six teams in Hie field Hie .juniors will have plenty of matches to occupy their Saturdays. Bolh Old Bovs and City had good wins the former particularly so. It is to he hoped that the responsible ones will see that their club is represented at full strength, because Rugby looks to its Juniors for Hie coming players, and every possible effort, should he made in making this competition a success. ‘ SATURDAY’S MATCHKS. The star attraction for next. Saturday will he Hie meeting of tiic City and Old Boys’ senior fifteens Tit Steele Park, and should conditions he at all satisfactory a good exhibition should he provided. At Die weekly meeting of the ercentive of the Cambridge Rugby Uniap, Mr W. Dick presided over 1 1 members. Permission was obtained from the Borough Council to use Hie Victoria Square for football purposes. The acting secretary of a proposed South Auckland Rugby Union invited a delegate to attend a rejecting to lie held at Hamilton. As the Cambridge B.U. had been unable to send a delegate, it was decided to, await further particulars. Entries for the local competitions wore received as follows:—Senior: Maungatautari. lloto-o-Rangi, Hautapii and City. Junior: Hautapii, City and Maungatautari. The competition, will be commenced on May 15, when a senior and junior match will he played, the draw for which resulted in both junior and senior grades falling to fitly and Hautapii. It was decided to ask Mrs Tolly lo publicly make Hie presentation of the banner, which she has donated, on Saturday next, to the Hautapii 'learn, Hie winners of last year's competition; and the secretary was also authorised ■to procure JB' senior and 18 junior badges for Hie players in the winning teams of last year. Similar badges are to be again offered for competition for the current season. Mr Webber intimated Dial Messrs Bishop and Taylor had offered to donate a cup for competition in a seven-a-side tournament. The offer was .gratefully received and Hie donors arc to he thanked for their gift. The BishopTaylor Cup will be. competed for annually by local teams. A seven-a-side tournament will tie held on May 22. A programme of other events will also be arranged. After discussion on Hie matter of encroachment by spectators in the playing area, it was decided to approach l-ho hockey club and Borough Council with a view lo creeling a post and wire fence to keep people out. MORRINSVILLE UNION. The Morrinsville Rugby Union met, cn Saturday evening, Mr Wen/,1 Scholium was elected patron of the union; Mr B. J. Hynes was elected a vicepresident: Messrs U. S. Ryan, H. N. Morpeth, and S. J. Rain, a selection committee; Messrs W. C. Cargill, F. C. Warner, and D. It. F. Campbell an appeal committee. It was decided to play a representative match with Hamilton on June 5 for the Peace Cup. The president* Mr Chapman, reported that as the result of cJTorls made by Hie Morrinsville Union Hie Sonlh .Auckland Rugby Union bad been formed, and a, committee had been appointed.
