Mr Robert Mackenzie Watson, barrister and solicitor, of Wellington, nag boen appointed a stipendiary magistrate.
Captain Worley, of Paeroa, was a visitor to Hamilton last mght. He rcturned to Paeroa this morning, but txpects to participate in the motor torn Uto Raglan and Kawhia to-morrow in connection with the light lino proposal. It is stated that His Excellency tinMost Rev. Monsignor Cattaneo, the Apostolic Delegate in Australia, hopes to visit New Zealand as soon as his Australian engagements would permit of it. Mr George Brett, of Wellington who has taken over the management ot the Theatre Royal Tea Rooms, is a prominent amateur athlete; being one of the best handicap men of that province Mr Brett will prove an acquisition to amateur athletic and sporting circles generally in Hamilton.
