FIRE IN WOOLWORKS. HEAVY LOSS SUSTAINED. By Telegraph—-Press Association. . CHRISTCHURCH, Wednesday. Last night a lire was discovered m the wool department at the Eastgate Refrigerating Company’s works at Islington. The lire took an hour to subdue. It is estimated that the damage to the building, wool and plant will run into from £12,000 to £2O, The insurance on Hic whole works at the Islington freezing works, which were seriously damaged by the lire last night, is understood to amount to £23,000, practically every insurance company in New Zealand being involved. This morning representatives of the companies examined the damage, with a view to assessing the amount to be paid out. The general manager states that the company will ho able to continue operations'’ at the fcllmongery department, and it is not regarded as necessary to seek the assistance of other companys to carry on.
BANKING STAFFS. OPPOSITION TO UNIONISM . • (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, Wednesday. A proposal from the Bank Officers’ Association was discussed yesterday by the local staff of the Bank of New Zealand, who unanimously resolved to record their appreciation of the satisfactory relations between the directors and staff, also disapproving uf any attempt to introduce union principles into that relationship.
