BRITISH AVIATORS ACTIVE. ALONG THE WHOLE BATTLEFRONT. CLOSE TOUCH WITH ADVANCING INFANTRY. SUCCESSFUL NIGHT. BOMBING. (Australian and N.Z. and Reuter.) Received October 10, 9.55 p.m. LONDON, October 10. Sir Douglas Haig, in his aviation report, states that our air squadron are active along the whole front, keeping in close touch with our advancing troops. The smoke curtain which they dropped round the enemy's strong points proved of the greatest value. Aeroplanes with bombs and machine-gun lire scattered infantry transports, dropping 21 tons of bombs. We destroyed ten aeroplanes and drove down two uncontrollable. Seven British machines afe missing. Our night fliers dropped 23A tons on railways and eommunicatiqons. We hit and derailed two trains and started several large fires at railway sidings. All returned. LATER NEW INCENDIARY BOMB. USED BY GERMAN AVIATORS.
(Reuter's Telegrams.) Received October 10, 12.50 a.m. PARIS, October 9. German airmen are using a highly effective new incendiary bomb, each machine carrying 200. The spread of the fires can only be checked by the isolation of the localities where the chemicals explode. FRENCH BOMB RAILWAYS. • (Australian and N.Z. and Beuter.) Received October 11, 10 a.m. LONDON, Octolwr 10. A French communique states that unfavourable weather on Tuesday restricted air operations. The weather improved at night, when 2(5 tons of bombs were dropped on several stations and Htjie railways connecting them.
