DESPERADOES IN SYDNEY
SEQUEL TO MOTOR CAR ROBBERY. DETECTIVE FIRED ON. FIFTEEN SHOTS EXCHANGED. {United Press Association.) Received Julv 18, 10.25 p.m. SYDNEY, July 18. As a sequel to the motor car jewel robbery the police learned that the thieves would attempt to dispose of the proceeds, and set a trap at a certain pawnbroker's shop. A man appeared, but evidently recognised the detect've, and fired point blank, wounding the detective twice. An exciting chase followed, in which other defectives joined, and fifteen shots were exchanged, but the suspect escaped.
