In a hospital report, issued this morning, 11. Meadway, of Paterangi, is removed from the seriously ill list. The managing director of the stock department of the Wairarapa Farmers' Co-operative Association at Mastcrton, -Mr Ormond C. Cooper, died on Saturday from injuries received in a motorcar accident on Wednesday night.
The following magistrates will retire on superannuation from August 1: Messrs V. J. Burgess, A.;ck!«iui; i'. O'B. Louglinan, Blenheim; W. A. Haiton. Gisborne; H. W. Bishop, Christchuich; W. U. Hasekkn, Hawera; 1. Hutchison, West Coast; 1.. 0. Ileid. Marton. Mr C. C. Kettle, of Auckland, has resigned on account of ill-health. At yesterday's meeting of the Piakj County Council, Cr. Smith iWalton) tendered Ids resignation, as he had disposed of his property and was leaving the district. He thanked the councillors, stall' and Press for their courteous treatment of him during his term of office, and asked tor his successor the s:\nu: treatment. Tin (L:iinian and Cr. Watkins expressed reg'ct at Cr. Smith's retirement, and wished him success in his future career.
