FURTHER BRITISH PROGRESS

MUCH USEFUL AERIAL WORK DONE. THREE GERMAN .MACHINES BROUGHT DOWN—FIVE BRITISH MISSING. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) Received April 18, 7.30 p.m. LONDON, April 18. Sir Douglas Haig reports: We have made further progress north of Gouzeaucourt, near Havrincourt Wood. There have been encounters throughout the day west and north-west of Lens, where we continue to press the eriemy. Hostile attempts to drive back our advanced troops have been unsuccessful. Much useful aeroplane work was done on Monday in spite of unfavourable weather. Three German aeroplanes were brought down damaged. In most cases the enemy avoided combat. Five of our aeroplanes are missing.
