COMMITTEE MEETING.
A meeting of the committee was held on Friday evening. Present: Messrs ■I. H. Fow (in the chair), E. Rawson, J. W. Hopkins, Aiken, and H. Dymock.
Reference was made to the services rendered by the late secretary, Mr J. C. MeCrea, and Mr H. A. Hopkins was elected to fill the vacancy.
A balance sheet fur the past quarter showed the funds in hand at £36 7s Id, to which would be added the quarterly subsidy of £25 from the Borough Council, due in a few days, making a total of £GI 7s Id available, and the .secretary and the Town Clerk, Mr E. J. Davey, were authorised to operate on the bank account. The matter of additions to shelving, rendered necessary through the annnj.il nurchases of books, was gone into, and the chairman undertook to get plans for the new work and an estimate of the cost. In reference to the card index system, Mr Aiken was empowered to get a quotation for extra cabinet space. The comparatively small membership of the bivenilo department occasioned some discussion, and a resolution was carried the annual subscription to one shilling, as from the beginning of the month, the mover. Mr F. Pawson, cxnressing the hope that the reduction, from four shillings to one shilling per annum, would result in a "•'•path- increased juvenile membership. Others expressed the same view, the general experience voiced by members bping that such reductions generally brought new subscribers, and were seldom attended with loss to the library in +he long run. TTfe committee then went into the " ++ pr of the supply of books for the coming season.
