DESPERATE RESISTANCE
ENEMY'&AMBITIOUS PROGRAMME
FIRST ATTACK FOR MONTHS
LINE. AT LAGINCOURT RE-ESTAB. LISHED.
(Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) Received April 17, 8.45 a.m.
PARIS, April 16. The Petit Parisien states that four German divisions participated in the counter-attacks at the Bapaume-Cfanu bria road, attempting to recapture important points. It was the most ambitious programme undertaken for months, as hitherto the enemy has merely attempted to stop the Allied advance. The fighting became extremely fierce when Lagincourt was partly lost and important reinforcements, supported by formidable artillery, were rushed into the flame and smoke of t;he captured village, and re-established the line.
