MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS.
♦— # The burgesses of Hamilton are to be congratulated upon the manifestation of enhanced interest in municipal affairs as exemplified by the number of candidates nominated for the Council. II is a healthy sign when prominent and tried business men offer their services to the burgesses, for the rendition of such service means considerable loss of time, which the man of business can frequently ill spare. From the 23 candidates whose names appear elsewhere the burgesses should be able to select a really strong Council composed of progressive, practical and business men, who can be depended upon to do their best for the borough and pursue a safe and sane policy. As has been pointed out by Mr J. W. Ellis, the Mayor-elect, this is no time for fireworks of any description, and anything in the nature of plunging or experimental enterprises must be frowned down at the present juncture. The election of Mr J. WV Ellis to the office of Mayor is a good thing, as he possesses the absolute confidence of all classes in.the community, ,Ind his return is- a guaranteethat the affairs of the town will be ad* ministered with both care and impartiality. If the burgesses make a wise choice on Wednesday, 25th inst., the combined borough of Hamilton and Frankton will be launched on its new career under ' happy auspices. Care, however, must be exercised against forcing the pace by the adoption of
schemes which-may mean heavy re~ sponsibilities while the benefits accruing from them we .very, problematical.
