EGYPTIAN CAMPAICN Excellent Work by Colonial Troops 1 GREECE REFUSES DEMANDS ALLIED TROOPS LANDED GERM4NS NEARING BUCHAREST CAPITAL DEFENDED BY FORTS ON ANTWERP PLAN. DEFENCE WILL REQUIRE AT LEAST 100,000 MEN. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association J LONDON, November 30. The Germans claim that the fall of Campulung opens the way across the rorzburg Pass. They captured 1217 men and seven guns at Campulung. In view of the fall of Campulung, and General Mackensen's continued advance, experts are less optimistic as t othe chance of saving Bucharest. It is unlikely that heavy, long-range guns have yet reached the vicinity, but the German advance-guards are within 18 miles of the capital. Brialmont planned the Bucharest forts, which resemble those at Antwerp. The basis is belts of forts surrounding an inner circle, with advanced defence works. The defences include steel-protected cupolas and mobile armoured towers, armed with guns which can easily be brought to threatened points, as the whole circle of fortifications is connected by railways. All the armour and the guns are from Krupp's. The defence of the fortress will require at least 100,000 men. ROUMANIANS MAKE PROGRESS IN TWO VALLEYS. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) LONDON, December 1. A Roumanian communique states: "There have been violent actions on the whole north-west front. We made progress in the Buzeu and Prahova Valleys. The situation on the southern front is unchanged."
