PREPARING FOR NEW SEASON. MOVEMENTS OK HAMILTON Cl.l'll

The Hamilton Mowing Club took initial stops on Monday night towards preparing for tin* operations of the forthcoming season, when the annual meeting was hold. The president (Mr A. Swarbrick) occupied the chair. The report was as follows: Membership—The membership remains at 23. The scheme entered upon by the Cluh for the admittance ot youths at a reduced fee, although partly successful, did not produce as many junior members as expected. It is anticipated that in later years this scheme will lie a big inducement to memnership and that the Club will be able to produce from the junior members rowers second to none. Finance —'I ho statement ot accounts presented to you shows a sound financial position, and that the •Qlub is steadily progressing. The boatiibuse is now completed and is free of debt except for forty one-pound debentures and interest thereon. Uegattas —The Club was repersented at Ngaruawi'.hia Regatta. when Messrs I'. J. Cranio (str.). G. Win (3), J. Hudner (2), I'. Dopji (bow), succeeded in winning the lightweight maiden fours. Hie AYaikato Ci'a'l ■ n<;e Cir* wa« regained from Xganiawahia during the season. This *« tlie first time the Club has succeeded in annexing the Cup since 1910. Messrs S. Bee van (str.). C. Tonkin (3), AY. H. Prickett (2), G. Smith (bow), and Master Grace (cox) were the representatives. The congratulations of the committee :»re extended to the winning crews. Club I'aces—During the season three sets of Club trials were held. The racing was always keen and very interesting and provided much sport for the members. The winning crews and donors are as follows: C. H. Holloway's Trophy—AY. H. Prickett (str.), C. A. Donn (3). Dewson (2). A. I. K. Jones (bow). Master Grace (cox); late J. E. Hammond's Medals: C. Tonkin (str.). I. A\ . St. Clair (3), G. E. Burbush (2). A. T. E. Jones (bow), Master Truman (cox): Messrs Hallenstein Bros." Trophy: S. Bevan (str.). (I. Wm (3), AA . H. Prickett (2), A. Buckingham (bow), E Grace (cox). Complimentary—A word of thanks is heartily expressed to the .'retiring Club captain, whose wholehearted interest in the Club is materially resoonsibV for the present position of the Club, and the success it has achieved. He has not only assisted the Club financially, and by being successful at Regattas, but was largelv responsible for securing the erection of the new boat house and by keeping the C'lub together when at a low ebb, 1 is pleasing to mention that Mr Tonkin is a life member of the Club. Mr Win, another valuable member, whose services will be greatly missed, loft during the season. A special vote of thanks is accorded to Messrs Hallenstein Bros., C. H. Hollowav, and the late Mr J. E. Hammond for trophies given for competition. The press is also thanked for the various notes and comments given during the season. The balance .sheet showed receipts totalling £43 7s 2d. and expenditure for the season at £43 2s 2d. Liabilities included £4l of debentures, £lf 7s 9d interest, while on the assets side boathouse and lockers were shown at! £190; boats and oars at -f'9s. and a balance of assets over liabilities of £233 17s 3d. The election of the office-hearers resulted: President, Mr A. Swarbrick: vice-presidents, Messrs .T. Yarnev, H. H. Howden, and Archdeacon Cowie; caotain, Mr W. H. Prickett; vice-can-tain. Mr S. Beavan; secretary, ATr T. T.. Seator; committee: Messrs H. A. Swarbrick, P. Donn. T. File, J. Hudner. B. J. Harris, C. D. Molesworth and C. H. Hollowav; hon. auditor. Mr E. Luxford selection committee, captain. vice-captain and secretarv. A motion was carried, the effect of which means an alteration to rule 3 to permit of members being elected for the season without payment of entrance fee. It was resolved to thank the Nsrarunwabia Club for an invitation to be "resent at the'' - eoening on AYednesdav. ! Tt was derided to express -the Cub's svmpathy with the AA'hangarei Club nn i t\ie recent heavy loss they sustained by the destruction of their shed. Yotes o f thanks were accorded the retiring office-bearers.
