Royal Artillery Band.
THIS AFTERNOON'S CONCERT
A MUSICAL TREA'I
No doubt the inclemency of tin weather affected the attendance of the public at Claudelands this afternoon to hear a programme of music by the Royal Artillery Band. The programme rendered was such as is seldom the fortune of Hamilton residents to hear. The opening number was Wagner's wellknown march, "Rienzi." Ihis beautiful piece was excellently rendered. One of the finest numbers of the afternoon was a selection from Pagliacci (Leoncavallo). The piece was treated sympathetically, and served admirably to display the skill of the musicians, and the high pitch of excellence to which they have attained. In Herbert Haines' "Woodland Dances" the band also gave further proof of its musicianlv skill. Damare's "The Wren" afforded Corporal E. Reynolds excellent opportunity to display his talent as a piccolo soloist. Corporal Reynolds played Damare's well-known theme pcrfecth. The \ arious difficult passages were treated in a sympathetic manner, and his execution of the lower notes was splendid. The well-known overture to "William Tell" brought to a clow a progi amine that was in every respect a musical treat. THIS EVENING'S CONCERT. Ihe final concert to be given by the Royal Artillery Band this evening will be the last opportunity that the people of Hamilton will have of hearing the band outside of Auckland without travelling south, as it will be impossible for it to return to this town. A remark- ! ably fine programme has been prapared for this evening's entertainment, and us it is to be held in the Town Mall instead of, as iii the case this afternoon, in the open air, the audience will have the opportunity of judging even more finely the capability of the band and its delicate of performance. The band will play just such a programme as it is in the habit of playing in the great London Halls, and the splendid programme coupled with the skill and artistic performance of the musicians, ensures a musical treat such as is rarely heard in New Zealand.
