THE NORTHERN UNION GAME.
LOWER WAIKATO v. HAMILTON.
The 1 return matoh Lower Waikato v. Hamilton under Northern Union, rules was played at Frankton on Satdrday under very favorable circumstances and in the presence of a
•f-vir attendance. Lower Waifcatc was minus the services of- Spragnt. Kay and Vincent, three pretty sure scorers. The game was not of a very ■brilliant order, the backs getting very little to do and when their chances came along the ball was almost invariably fumbled. Rough play also entered largely into, the game and as roughness was one of the things the new code was promised to elimin.it:, the authorities controlling the leagm game should see to it that this objectionable feature is put down. There was nothing to choose froim in the first spell, half time being called with no scores registered. Play brightened somewhat on resumption, the ball passing rapidly from one end of the field to the other. Five minutes after starting Lower Waikato had Hamilton busy defending their line, a save in the corner easing matters. The. relief was only temporary, for Gleeson immediately gathered up and crossed the line,. Hall converting. Lower Waikato 5, Hamilton 0. The visiters again came at the charge Devgry mid Reidj staving off the attacks cleverly. The red l and whites however eventually got down to the line and Hamilton made a lucky force. Gastletoa received a nasty bump in collaring a heavy forward and had to retire, "Nugget" Hughes taking his place. Close on the call of time Lower Waikato rrade a breach and "Nugget" Hughes taking the kick landed a beautiful goil from a little inside half way, the game ending Lower Waikato 5, Hamilton 3.
