DECISIVE CHINESE ACTION

Dr Mor rison, Pekiu correspondent of The Times, enumerates the Chinese proposals to Great Britain with regard to the Indian opium traffic, including those for the restriction of the importation into China until the disappearance of the traffic within a decade. It is intended to double the import duty on Indian opium, and immediately to enforce the Morphia [Treaty negotiated by Sir James ~%ackay in 1902, without awaiting the other Powers' assent. Dr: Morrison adds that the opium dens at Tientsin and elsewhere are &eing ruthlessly closed.
