COUNTY COUNCILS.

WAIKATO. The statutory meeting of the Waikato County Council was held at the Waikato Conned offices on Wednesday at dood. I'iesent:—Messrs J. Messrs Primrose, »nd Bailey weie appointed to represent the Council on the Waikato Hospital Board. Cr. Paterson was appointed one of a deputation to wait on the Minister for Lands re the traffic bridge. The Matahura Cemetery Trustees were granted £lO, in response to their application. The Waipa County Council met at Obaupo yesterday. There were present: Cis. J. Fisher (Chairman), Allen, Duxfield, McKay, Grant, Kothwelland McKinder. Cr. Ball sent an apology, and was granted leave of absence. Owing to the advertising of the Koromatua special rating district having been postponed, it was decided to hold the next meetin; on Tuesday, December 18th. The Supervisor reported that, as instructed he had inspected the route of the proposed new r ad from Te Kowhai to Te B»pa. and found that the distance from the Te Ripa railway station to the point where it j'ins the public mad under the Newcastle Road Board is 215 chains as the crofs flies. Owing ts drainage already carried cut, only comparatively small expense would be necessitated for the cutting of side drains. He thought a fairly lerviceable road could be opened up for about £350, not including gravelling or metalling. Of course such a road would be expensive to maintain and would be a heavy charge on the Hamilton district funds. Owing to Cr. Bell's absence, consideration was deferred till next meeting. The engineer for the strengthening of the Cambridge bridge forwarded plans of the proposed work, estimated to cost £2OO- - supervisor stited that he bad engaged Mr W. Fox, of Hamilton, to superintend the work, which would be done by day work. 'I he plans were adapted. The Rnade department notified that authority had been granted to expend the vote of £2i.O for the l'e Awsmutu-Kikikibi road. The Cambridge Borough Council stated that they had been advised that the new high level bridge would be shipped from Americi during December. Letters regarding the loan of £9,500 were received from the Treasury. The Clerk was instructed to forward the necessary d cuments. Mr H. J. Greenslade, M.H.R., forwarded a letter received by him, from the Minister of Railways, stating that there was no (I'j ction to the Council having the use of a railway gravel reserve near Ngaruawahia. The conditions were accepted. For road work at Te Awamutu, the tender of Mr Wm. Lovett was accepted, at 4s 7d for the Te Awamutu Ki ikihi meta'ling, 4s lid for the Frontier road, and 7s I}l for carting acd spreading gravel on the Nparoto The only other tender was that of Mr J. B. Teasdale at 4s and 4s lid for the first two respictively.—For the erection of a new bridge at McMicken'e, Mr C. Drabble tendered at £l4 for* the bridge and BJ-1 per yard for the earthwork ; R. Carter put in at £22 10s and 9i.-The first was accepted. The Clerk was authorised to call for tender* for the supply of dog collars for the ensuing year. A rtque=t from the Ngaruawahia Town Board, that a bad place in the road opposite the school be attended to, was referred to the engineer to inipect and report on the probable cost. The Ngaruawahia Town Board was granted permission to enclose a piece of the bye road adjoining the saleyards in order to allow of their extension. It was decided to purchase an Au-ton roid grader from Messrs Booth, McDonald and Co, Christchurcb, at £9O, including two extra blades. Cr. Duxfield and the Supervisor were authorised to define where the grant of £IOO be spent on the Whatawhata swamp road, and to call for tenders.—Cr. Rothwell itid the Supervisor will act in a similar manner with regard to the £IOO grant for the Tuhikaramea-Hamilton road. STATUTORY MEETING. The annual meeting was held at noon. Cr. Allen, in moving that Cr. Fisher be Chairman for the ensuing year, expressed the opinion that no better man could be found for thepnstion. Cr. McKinder seconded, and the moti n was carried unanimously with applause. Cr Fisher, on taking the chair, taid the

confidence reposed in him was sufficient reward for his work as chairman. Mr 0. Bowden was unimimouily re-elect-ed cl.rk. The proposer, Cr. Fisher, »nd the seconder, Cr. Rothwell, spoke highly of the manner in which the clerical duties hid bten carried out. The Chairman moved there-appointment of Mr W. H. Mandeno a* supervi.-or, paying a high compliment to the latter for tte conscientious »nd skilful manner in which he had attended to his reepoDßibla duties.

Cr. Allen secnded, and Or. Rothwell supported the appointment in eulogistic terms. The motion was carried. The Chairman and Crs. Hell and Putts were re-appointed the Council's repreßenta'ives en the Hospital Hoard. The Chairman, and Crs. Allen, Pottß and Duxfield were re-appointed finance committee.
