The Board's solictor (Mr MacDinrmid) gave it &s his) opinion that timber rights (where the payment of a fixed sum or a royalty was made), could not be considered " rateable property," and though they may be on the valuation roll as rateable property, if the board sued fjr the rates and were non suited, the Board, and not tho Valuation Department would have to pay the costs.

Mr A. Choqueel requested that the hill opposite his property on Valley Rmd, be graled by taking out about 110 yards. Tne Board decided to take «ut 50 yard?, and if that was not sufficient, Mr Choqueel could do the rest at his own expense. A deputation consisting of Messrs Harris Bedford, Wooliield, Mathers, Full ;rton and ilolvor waited on the Board and requested that the Board contribute iSO towards the cost of the te K<whia-Te Bapa road. The Government had granted X2OO for the road on the condition that a similar amount be raised in the district; the Waipa County Council has agreed to give .650, and if the Board would als) grant 4550, the remaining £ 100 oould be ra'sad amongst the settiers in contribution and labour, most uf which was already promised. As the new road would be in the Himilton riding, the work would be undertaken hy the Council.
