George Fowlds, speaking of the Jate Colonel Pitt, said the death of such a man would be keenly •- felt by his colleagues, and his place will be very difficult to fill. TRANSFERRING THE BODY. CHRISTCHURCH, This day. Out of consideration to the wishes of his relatives the funeral of" the late Colonel Pitt from Christchurch to Lyttelton was quietly conducted nevertheless a large number of representative gentlemen were present, including the Hon. Hall-Jones, Speaker of the Legislative Council, and members of both Houses. On reaching the railway station, the coffin was transferred to a special train, which left at once for Lyttelton, when the body was placed on the Government steamer Tutanekai, which left for Nelson shortly alter of the arrival of the second express, bearing the Premier and the Hon. J. A. Millar. The Cathedral bell tolled during the time of the funeral procession proceeding to the station. The interment takes place at Nelson • to-morrow.
