THE EXHIBITION.
SIR JOHN GORST AND THE MAORIS. CHRISTCHURCH, This day. Sir John Gorst entertained the Maoris and Cook Islanders at the Exhibition Pah at luncheon to-day. The natives had previously entertained him and he has returned their kindness. Sir John presided and amongst those present were Captain Atkin, British Commissioner, Miss Gorst, Mr A. Hamilton (designer of the Pah), Mr McGregor (superintendent of the Pah) and Mrs McGregoi. Sir John Gorst delivered an address in Maori, and he proposed the toast of the King. This was heartily responded to and several chiefs replied to the toast. At the conclusion Sir John Gorst and his daughter presented each man with a pipe, each woman with a workbox and each child with a box of sweets. COLONEL PITT'S ILLNESS. THE MINISTER IN CHARGE. CHRISTCHURCH, This day. Owing to the indisposition of Colonel Pitt, Mr Hall-Jones has taken over charge of the Exhibition arrangements. The doctors are very sanguine that Colonel Pitt will make a speedy jecovery, his heart being exceptionally sound for a man of his years.
