CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
♦ The monthly meetiog of the committee j of the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce was hell iu the Chamber's rooms last evening, Mr U. W. Sare (President) was in the chair, and there was a good attendance of members. Letters were received from the Railway Department stating that the request for a siding at thes*leyards had to be declined, and that it wi»s impossible to Igrant the extra faoiiities asked for in the services on the Rjtorua, Kiog Country and Cambridge lines.—lt was decide Ito again urge on the Departmentlthe necessity for the siding and also increased service on the King Conntry line, and to bring these matters before tho Minister on his visiting the district. It was decided to ask the Waik&to Farmers' Union to join in a deputaticn from the Chamber to the -Minister for U'.ds urging the desirubility of the ost iblishment of the School of Dairying at ttuakura. The matter of increased attendance at the Post Offi e, and the matter of the extension of the hours of the telephone exchange to 10 p.m., will be brought before the authorities. Attention was drawn to the delivery of goods received through the railway, and the matter was referred to a commfttee to inquire into and report at next meeting. A circular from the manager of tho Wellington Meat Expirt Company with reference to the necessity for increased fac lities for loading sheep into railway waggons was received. A ruling was received from the Inspector of Factories to ti*e effect that it nas not oompulsory to close on the ordinary weekly half-holiday in a week in which there is a statutoiy holiday, provided the same hours are observed on the latter day.
