The Waikato Times, THAMES VALLEY GAZETTE, AND KAWHIA ADVOCATE. Established Thirty-Four Years. THE OLDEST DAILY NEWSPAPER IN THE WAIKATO. THE LARGEST CIRCULATION OF ANY DAILY PAPER SOUTH OF AUCKLAND. SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 10, 1906. THE SHOW.

Once again the great annual event of the Waikato has come and passed, and we have before us a year in which to reflect 011 the lessons learned, and to "prepare for the next Show. In such exhibitions as that of Thursday and yesterday we see the side of the work of an Agricultural and Pastoral Association that conies most prominently before the public. Many, no doubt, think the promotion of annual shows is the sole aim and object of the existence of such an association, and so until recent years in reality it was. Throughout the colony now, however, Agricultural and Pastoral Associations are beginning to realise that the annual show is but a means to an end, a demonstration as it were of the teaching and experimenting cartied on throughout the year. And with this broadening of the farmers' view will come a great accession of etli- | ciency and economy. The Show itself is possessed of great value to the farmer, as any great annual gathering necessarily is to the class that most resort to it. But it is perhaps in the periodical meetings of the Association that the members feel its greatest advantages, and as the facilities for disseminating information are extended such associations will become an even more potent factor in the advancement of the farming interests of the colony, and in corellation, the interests of the colony generally. The Agricultural Department has of late evinced a healthy interest in the work of agricultural societies by allowing them -the services of the veterinary and expert stall's, whose lectures and demonstrations have been highly appreciated wherever they have been delivered. To revert to the topic of immediate interest, in the fifteenth show of the Waikato Agricultural and Pastoral Association, a considerable advance was noticeable in many departments, and the officials may well be congratulated on the general result of their labours. The gratifying attendance from outside districts indicates that the Waikato Show is by no means of only local interest, and the steadily increasing attendance and number of visitors in the past augurs well for future progress. Hamilton is undeniably a splendid centre for a representative assemblage 011 such occasions, and as years pass by we may expect to tind the Show attended by breeders nud others fiom distant parts of the coiouv, desirous of establishing a reputation or expending tlieir business in such a profitable field. The association lias well earned tjie support the farmers of the Waikato have so loyally accorded it. However much we may regret the division of opinion that in the past led to the formation of two Agricultural and Pastoral Associations in the Waikato, the harmonious manner in which they are pulling together, and each assisting to make the other's show a success, is to be sdnnred and commended. With the advances made each successive year before us, it is not too much to expect that ere a great lapse of time] the Waikato spring and autumn j shows will have earned the title of /t);e premier exhibitions of their ieipfccliVj) seasons of the North Island.
