WAIKATO FANCY FAIR.
♦ One's labour in describe,' the Waikato Fancy Fair and Art Uaion is greatly lightened by the f ict that there is only one phrase which exactly fills the bill; that ii, ■' the success of previom years was rep»ated." Organised by the Rev. Father Darby as a means of aiding the funds cf the Hamilton Cathoho church and oonvent, the fair whs located, as formerly, on a at the corner of Knox arid Teasialo sdreet-i, a large marquee ereoted for the accommojat'.on of the stalls. The interior presented a pleasing appearance, fiiga and evergreens forming the principal features of the decorations, whioh were execu'ed with taste and effectiveness. During the evening a brisk business was done by the charming and parsmß.ve .stallholders and vendors of raifl) tickets, few of the sterner sex, at any rate, finding it impossible to resist their insidious <ppeals "to take a ticket" for this cushion or that nicknack. 'lhe proceedings were enlivened by datxea executed by a number of young girls under the direction of Atisß M. Chitty, who certainly deserves great praise for her rainstaking efforts to ensure suocasi. The principal stalls were: No, 1 pain and fancy work, presided over by Misses Scapleton, Bourke, Dillon and Casey; No. 2 plain and fancy work, Mesdames J. Taylor and Park-r and Miß9es Mo Jarrigle and Olarkio; refreshment, Misses M. Bourke, N. Casey and M. Kevell. Messrs J. Koache and M. S apleton had charge of a bran tub and fish pond which proved a suurce of delight ■ind diatppointment to many a " wee bit thing." Several competitions, such as ripsawiog, naildriving for ladios and hat trimming for gentlemen will be arranged during the fair which will last until Friday night Altogether the fair tent, which is brilliantly lighted with inveiled ard incandesoent gas burners, attracted a large number of vi-itors and given equal attendance on the other days, a substantial sum should be available to swell the funds to which the proceeds are to b<3 devoted,
