The ordinary meeting: of the Council was i held at Te Aroha on Wednesday. Present: Messrs T. Gavin (Chairman), MoCaw, j VTcGloin, Thomas, King, Donaldson and i Keeley. Larney ou account o* j sickness. County Liability,— The County Solicitor wrote advising the Council that they were not. liable for loss of a foal in a dam on Mr I. McNicol'a property.—Resolved to reply accordingly to Mr McNieol. WaIHOU C-LAUOHTER House. Mrs I rwidleaudMr S. McKibbon wrote complaining of the Waihou slaughter house, and a committee was appointed to visit the place unci report at, next meeting. Unsafe Bridges. Foreman Mahood reported that two small bridges on the Okoroire-I'e Arohißjad were unsafe for wheel traffic. —Arrangements had been made for repairing them. Gold Doty and Revenue.—The Treasury notified a credit of J6ts on account of gold duty for July.— I'he Treasury advised >nt of J614 12 3d for period endiug 21st July. .;:Udsidy. Advice of remittance of Xi7'i is 2d subsidy on rates was received from the Treasury. Permission to Take Sand.—Mr W. I. Weeks, Mornnsville, was granted permission to take a few loids of sand from County pit on the usual conditions. Titbeb on Native Land.—Ur Swarbrick (County solicitor) forwarded an opinion on the case in vvlnc.i Natives claimed J&4O for cutting fascines on native land.—The action of the Chairman in allowing the matter to go into Court was approved, and a vote of thanks to Mr Brady for his trouble in tne matter was pissed. Kailway Culvert at Akahiwi.—Mr H. W. Kiug complained tnat no water found found its way through this culvert, but gets away by soakage. He asked for instructions from the Council on the matter since the Department repudiated liability tor deepening the culvert.—Kesolved that the Council is not liable and advises Mr King to apply to the Minister of Railways and ask Mr Herriea to support his application. A Question of Liability. -The Clerk was instructed to the liability of the Telegraph Department to remove trees or branches lopped by linemen to clear telegraph wires.—lt was stated that in some case 3 fences had been broken down and ditches obstructed by trees felled by linemen. Rates in Arrears.-The Clerk was authorised to Bue for rates in arrears. Tauranga-o-Moana Bridge. -MrGreenslade, M.h1.1i., wrote, enclosing a letter from the Minister of Public Works, stating that .£3OO had been appropriated tor thiß work, and that cost ot plans, etc., could be oharged against the vote. Further consideration of this matter whb deferred, Timber Tram.—Foremen Mahood reported that the deviation of the LichfieldNgatira road decided oa had been completed to the satisfaction of all parties, tie suggested granting permission to lay the tram along portion of road as shown on plau, on condition that it be laid ou one side of the road.— the clerk was instructed to draw up conditions and advise applioantß to see Mr Donaldson on the matter. Grant for Metalling.—The Wardville Liberal and Labour Federation, wrote asking the co-operatien of the Counoil to seoure a grant of .£IOOO for metalling the tfordon- Waharea road.—lt was resolved to ask Mr Greenslade, M.IJ.R, to back up the application. " Thirds." Sohedule of " thirds," amounting to iB6 2s 7d was received. Representation on Harbour Board.— The Minister for Trade and Customs wrote that this matter had reoeived careful consideration. Correspondence.— Mr Hosking, Tapipa, complained ot excesssive valuation ot nis property, and the letter was referred to Mr Garrett, Government Valuer. Mr A. L. Foster, surveyor, advised the Council that workou tne iirau road was rapidly proceeding. With regard to toe upper portion he stated that the survey was uol yet made, aud that the Assets Board aid not admit the right or the local body to determine the route uf a road, provided grading, tormiug and width were oorrect. .1 hompson's I'rack..—lt was resolved to ask the Minister tor Lands to place .£SOO on the Supplementary Estimates for widening and repairs tj western side of Thompson's track, aiao that the Tauranga County be asked to complete their portion of the Kaniai Track to the Piako County boundary. Cambridge High Level Bridge.— Notice was given that a special meeting would be held on the dale oi next ordinary meeting to make a special order to strike a rate of I-00th of a Id iu the £ to meet interest on the loan for the County's share of ooßt of construction. Em urgency Ward.—lt was resolved to communicate with the Tourist and Health Department, urging the necessity for establishing an emergency ward at Te Aroha without dolay Noxious Weeds.—A letter from the Raglau County suggesting that Councils should press the Government to enable the Agricultural Dep.utindut to deal more satisfactorily with this question was received. Miscellaneous.—A large number of accounts were passed for payment. —Tho foremen's reports were also deait with. Special Meeting.—The Council held a special meeting, and passed a special order declaring the Waitoa Road Board to be merged in the County, as from December Ist next.
