LABOUR IN CANADA.
INDEPENDENT PARTY FORMED. OTTAWA, September 24. The Dominion Trades and Labour Congress at Victoria resolved to establish a Canadian labour party, independent of existing political parties. INDEPENDENT PARTY. OTTAWA, September 24. Socialist members tried to capture the Dominion trades and labour congress, but were defeated by an overwhelming majority. The programme includes free compulsory education, eight hour day, voluntary arbitration fit labour disputes, and a minimum living wage.
