Engineer's Report.—The Eugine-jr reported lhut little work had been done on the new saleyards Contract during the past month owing to the shortage of paving material; 1058 square yards of paving had been laid, leaving l'J32 square yards to complete the work. He had certified to a progress piymeufc of .660 lis Gd. As regards the saleyards drain he had iuspected the 12 inch pipe drain running through Town Beit Suctions 8, 0 and 10, and fund that between the inlet and Frankton ivoad settlement had occurred in one or two p'aces, and the pipes were partly silted up. The obstruction had been removed and pipes would now di-eharge their full capacity. Plans and specifications were submitted for the new drain from the saleyards to the river, via Yiotoria-otreet, to divert about one-fourth of the water from the 12 inch pipe draiu. He bad perused Mr Blackman's letter and enclosure on tarring streets, but did not consider tar could be used with advantage on the streets of the lhrough until they have been formed in a permanent ma n >r. For instance it woald not be advisable to tar the strip of limestone iu Victoria-street and leave the remaining width untarred, whereas a coat of tar en the unmetalled portion would have a very short life. He propped laying down tarred limestone crossings in Yictoiia-street, but it would ba unwise to do any work of this nature before the streets are cut up for drainage m<'ins and c muections. He had prepare 1 specifi'ations for clearing gorse from the sanitary depot as required. The area was 27j acres, and as it was all more or less covered the cost of clearing would be at least ,£100; he suggested that a strip be cleared for a distance of 33 feet back from the frontages, and there would be no necessity for clearing the whole area. A road grader had been procured from Messrs McLean and Co. and he proposed putting in hand the re-formation of Albertstreet, Hamilton East. On enquiry he found that there is no record in the Deeds office, Auckland, that the old road through Sections 117 and 400, Hamilton Fast, near the rl'ismill has been cf-sed. The District Land Registrar informed him that on application by the Council a certificate of title wili be issued for Section 117, Gravel Reserve, Hamilton East. —The report was adopted.

Water, Meters.— Messsrs S. M. Co-skill and Sou, Auckland, informed the Council that the 3inch water meters left London by the Pakeha on August Bth, and that the delay was owing to the makers not being able to complete the order sooner. The Pakeha was due about September 28th.—Received.

I.UAINAOK. Mr W. G. Weddings, Inspector of Telegraphs, gave formal notice that the Telegraph Department objects to the Council placing a man hole for the driiuage system in the department's section in Hamilton. —Mr Joseph Hinton notified his intention of holding the Council liable for all damages arising from the construction through his property in Hamilton West. —Mr .1. D. Harwood claimed ill.) compensation in respect to Ins section in Clarence-street. Mr T. Vincent would hold the Council responsible for damage to section 27 I IU asked that a better job be mole ot it than was nude of the. old drain. It nu< decided to fissure Mr Hinton that; any damage would l-e paid for, and that Mr Harwood be approachel ou the quest i u of compensation. —Mr Vincent's letter was received. After passing a few accounts and trsn sacting routine Douiaiu Heard business, the Council rose.
