EXPORTATION OF BUTTER.
■By an order in Council dated the 201)1] November, the following sections of" The Dairy Industry ' Act, 1894," have been brought into force
Every person exporting butter shall have such butter placed in the cool-store proclaimed by the Governor, at least four clear days prior to shipment, for bhe purposa of being cooled or frozen. The ports of shipment to be Auckland, Wellington, Lyttel' ton, and Port Chalmers, atid such others asthe Governor' may from time to time proOrder in Council.
On the despatch of any butter or cheese to a cool-store, , the sender thereof shall immediately post notice thereof -to the ofheer in charge of the cool-store, giving" full particu'ars of, the number of kegs, boxes, or packages, as the case may be,, together with the stamps or marks and weights of each keg, box, or package. Ihe Governor may appoint persons who shall, prior to shipment, inspect and grade each lot of butter, and shall scamp or murk each ; keg, box, or package with the official stamp or mark and the figure denoting th& grade; shall, prior po shipment, inspect and grade each lot of cheese, and shall stamp or mark each cheese found tu be of inferior quality, and ' each keg, box, or package containing such cheese, with the official stamp cr mark and the figure denoting the grade. The official stamp is a broad arrow, and the grade-mark 1 fur first grade, 2 for seconj grade, and 3 for third grade. That on every keg, box, or package conbutter or cheese, and on every cheese in each lot, the date or dates on which such butter or cheese was u:anu w factured, and the number of the churning or vat, as the case may be, shall he legibly stamped or marked, the date or dates and number as requited by this subsection may be removed alter grading. Under the same date the following' stores' were declared cool stores under the Act. The Auckland Freezing Company (LimK ted),'store; The Wellington Meat Export Company (Limited), store, Wellington; The Lyttelfeon Harbour Board's store, Lyttelton • Irvine and Stevenson's store. Dunedin ;Taieriand Peninsula Dairy Company's store, Dunedin ; J. and R. Cuddie's' store, Mosgiel. It having been decided to bring into operation as from the 2!) th instant subsec(a), of section 21 of the above Act, the Government have agreed to provide free of cost for the freezing aud handling in and out of store of all butter for export, and for this purpose have aranged with the undernoted The, Auckland Freezing Compauy (Limited), Auckland ; the Wellington Meat Export Company (Limited), Wellington; the Lyttelton Harbour Boaul, Lvttelton ; and Messrs Irvine and Stevenson, Dunedin. The Government undertake no duties in connection with the shipping of produce, and exporters must make their own arrangements for transit to and from store. On the despatch of any produce full particulars (brand?. weights, &c.) of the consignment must be forwarded, addressed to the Grader, at the Government Cool stores.
