(by telegraph.-press association). CHRISTCHURC& Last Night. The Oddfellows' Hall at Sydenham was burned to the ground this morning. The building cost originally about £3OOO, and was insured in the Alliance Office for £I6OO. The origin of the fire is a mystery. The property belonged to the Oddfellows' and Foresters.

WELLINGTON, Last Night. Miss May Yates celebrated her approaching departure from the colony byavege tarian banquet, at which 37 were present. The result is rather a surprise as the sitting Mayor, Mr Brandon, was expected to win though his supporters were a little afraid that, as the polling ■showed, Councillor Harris might split the votes sufficiently to let a third man in, Mr Luke is a well known ironfounder in the town, but he has not had any previous experience in municipal affairs,
