AMERICAN ELECTIONS.
(BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH-COPYRIGHT). Washington, November 1. Returns from almost all the States are now in, and they show that a Democratic majority of 92 in the Congress has changed into a Republican majority of over 30. Mr Wilson, the tariff reformer, was defeated in West Virginia. The Republican victory is complete. It was gained chiefly in Dakota, Illinois, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Connecticut, Ohio.Massachusetts, New Jersey, Wisconsin, Colorado, and Cali* fornia. The first returns indicate that 210 Republicans have been elected, 133 Democrats, and 13 Populists. Several Coxeyites were also elected. Mr Mor> ton has been elected Governor of New York State. November 8. Later returns show that the Republican party bas a majority of 64 members in tha Congress, and it is probable the party will also be in a majority in the Senate, The result of the elections is not expected to affect the tariff.
