THE MATE.

CATTLB Sam.-The opening sale at the Te Mata Yards took place on November Ist. The yards are erected on the property of Mr John Galvan. They are commodious and of substantial structure, and have good paddock accommodation around them. There were submitted for sale 250 head of cattle, besides sheep and horses, The attendance from all parts of the district was good, and plenty of buyers w°,re present, For calves there was an unsatisfied demand at about 355; nuggety, half-draught horses, £8 to £l2; good calves, 395; eighteen-months mixed cattle, £2 5s 6d ; cows, £3 5s (id to £5 10s. Sheep: Old awes, 5s 3d ; good dry ewes, 7s 3d. Mr Smith of the Harbour View Hot; 1, Raglan, had a booth on the ground, and was well satisfied with the venture. Dinner was provided at Mr Galvan's place. The next Te Mata sale is expected to take place on November 30th, and over 250 head of cattle are already entered, so that we may expsct our local auctioneer Mr Langley, to be kept going during the summer months., Especially .so when the Te Uku sale yards are completed, as they will be most centrally situated on the corner of Mr E. B. Hill's land, and at the junction of the Waipa and Hot Springs road. Messrs Johnstone Brothers have.the contract fur their erection, and no doubt will push en with the work. A very large buyer of young stock has expressed his intention of coming over to attend sales in these yards, and no doubt others will also attend; so that with the very number of cattle reared in this district, the opening of these sale yards should be a great success.
