RAGLAN.

Saleyards at Waitbtuna,-The adjourned meeting to consider the proposed establishment of public saleyards in .a central position for the Raghn district was held at the Te Uku Post-office, Lower Waitetuna, on Saturday last, September 17th. There were about twenty settlers present, notwithstanding the inclemency of the weather, besides the members, of the committee, Mr R. C. Smith occupying the chair. As nothing definite had been come to between the Government and the natives respecting the sit? proposed at a former meeting, it was unanimously resolved, "That public saleyards be erected within balf-a-mile of the junction of the Hot Springs and Raglan Road." Mr Cogswell then submitted the plans of the proposed yards. The sum of £3710s was subscribed jn the room, sothat there is now no doubt but that the Raglan district will soon have public saleyards, centrally situated and convenient for settlers residing in all parts of the district, viz.: Waingaro, Okete, Waitetuna, Te Mata, Ruapuke, Raglan, Karioi, etc. I hope to'see these yards largely patronised by both buyers and sellers from the Raglan and Waitetuna districts. ' , Butter Factory.-The meeting then resolved itself into another form—to consider tho desirability of establishing creameries in the various centres of the district, with a butter factory in Rsglan. . Mr A. Langley laid before the meeting a great deal of information on the matter from Messrs Reynolds and Co. Mr Bankart. who has been jn communication with the Loan and Mercantile Company on the same subject, was expected to be at the meeting, but was prevented from being present. Mr Langley was requested. to communicate with Messrs Reynolds and Co. aud the Loan and Mercantile Company on the sub- ; ject, and to" gather further information. It was found that from those present fr<?m the ■ Wisiltetuha'disfcrict alone that the milk ■ 0f247 <sws waiproiniaed.^-It'was thought that the creameries should not be more •.thanfive niijes'raclrns ; Mm;;tlie different centres,'the cream to'be delivered at the Raglan factory twice a week, Now with , the Waitetuna, |iromise and the support . o(, ' Te Ma)::#, 'Kauroa; WaitomYtoiiiq, /Karioi, Ruapdlce,' Raglan town and suburbs, etc.,. we may next season hope . to see a butter factory ia Raglan an est iblished fact. Land.-Mr Rintonl, who recently purchased Mr Rastrick's property at Ruapuke, has now acquired four hundred acres of ( Gbvernirient- land and Messrs ' Swan have taken tip one hundred and fifty acres adjoining : besides ninety acres which they took up some little time ago. v. S.S. Glenrlg.—This steamer arrived on Tuesday «nd brought, a larcre quantity of general carge for Raglan, Waingaro, etc.,. and also several passengers for this place, amongst the number being two brothers of Mr Jackson, of Riiapuke, who very recently arrived from the Old Country. The vessel got away, early on Tuesday afternoon for • Onehunga. Wind,-During the last week we have

had a succession of at run? winds from 1 almost all'points of,the. compass except north and north-west. At times, especially when the wind hail been at all easterly or towards the south, it has been bitterly cold. Last night (Thursday) it seemed to be veering all round the compass. Farming • operations havo been much retarded, many pnt yet bavin? their oats, in or. potatoes 1 planted,, whilst gardening is at a standstill. Fruit trees have suffered much, especially peaches | they had a grand show of blossom, but the wet, bleak, cold weather seems to have cut the.buds clean off as it by a knife. The weather certainly seems to be ruled by cycles, for we have now had three rough wet Bpringsin succession.
