Auckland, List Night. .At Messrs Alfred Buckland and Sons' yards to-day, the Clydesdale stallion Duke of Argyle was submitted to auction and bought by Messrs W. and G. Winstone at .205 guinea?. The Olydesda'e stallion Break o' Day failed to reach the reserve. ■ A man named Patrick Franklin, aged About 30, who arrived from Sydney in the Wairarapa on Tuesday last, was, instantaneously killed in Durham-street about 20 minutes to four this afternoon. Franklin •was giving a horse a trial with a loaded dray, when the anitnal got unmanageable, but he held on to its head and it jammed him with great force against the concrete •wall leading to Nolan's sale '.yard, the poor fellow being killed instantly, Dr. Scott, who happened to be . there, pronounced life extinct.

An inquest was held to-day before Dr. Pliilson respecting the death of Alice Ann Harris, who died suddenly on Wednesday evening last.'
